Sophie Jiehea Hong
Pianist
Korean-American pianist Dr. Sophie Jiehea Hong is an accomplished and versatile soloist and chamber musician. Her performances have been heard to great acclaim at numerous venues throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Dr. Hong has had solo appearances with orchestras including the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra, the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra, and the Georgia All State Orchestra.
Dr. Hong has won prizes in numerous competitions including Margaret A. Guthman International Keyboard Competition, National Clara Wells Competition, Kawai Piano Competition, Atlanta Music Club Competition, and Music Teachers National Association Piano Competition. In addition, she is a recipient of the Korean Embassy Honorary Scholarship in Performing Arts, Choson Scholarship, Sejong Scholarship, and John H. Dorminey Jr. Piano Scholarship.
In May 2014, Dr. Hong received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she worked with Benjamin Pasternack. In the course of her studies at Peabody, Dr. Hong had the privilege to work with many renowned musicians, including Leon Fleisher, Robert McDonald, Julian Martin, Dominique Weber, Alexander Shtarkman, Ellen Mack, and John Shirley-Quirk. Dr. Hong is currently a music director at Glen Mar United Methodist Church.

고전과 현대를 아우르는 폭넓은 음악적 영역에서 풍부한 음악성과 섬세한 연주로 주목받고 있는 피아니스트 Dr. 소피 홍 (홍지혜)은 University of Georgia 당시 음대 역사상 가장 많은 장학금을 받으며 피아노 연주 수석으로 졸업했다. 이후 Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University 에서 장학금을 받으며 석사를 마친후, 2014년 5월 박사학위를 취득함으로 그 실력을 인정 받았다.
Benjamin Pasternack, Evgeny Rivkin, Nancy Elton 을 사사한 그녀는 Margaret A. Guthman International Keyboard Competition 1위, National Clara Wells Competition 2위, Kawai Piano Competition, 1위, Atlanta Music Club Competition 1위, Young Musician’s Competition 2위, Jo Evans Competition 3위 및 많은 콩쿨을 수상하였다. 또한 Korean Embassy Honorary Scholarship in Performing Arts, Korean American Scholarship Foundation’s award for musicians, Atlanta Music Club scholarship, Sejong Foundation of America Scholarship 등의 상을 받았다. 뿐만아니라 Leon Fleisher, Robert McDonald, Julian Martin, Dominique Weber, Alexander Shtarkman, Ellen Mack 등 동시대를 대표하는 유수의 피아니스트들의 Coaching과 Masterclass 에 참여하며 음악가로서의 입지를 다져나갔다.
워싱턴 D.C., 메릴랜드, 버지니아와 조지아주를 중심적으로 미국 전역을 중심으로 활발한 연주활동을 하고 있으며 솔리스트로써 Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra, University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra, Georgia All State Orchestra 와 협연하였고 아울러 실내악과 반주 활동에도 폭넓게 참여하여 그의 활동 무대를 넓히고 있다. 연주활동 뿐 아니라 후학양성에도 몰두하고 있으며 2015년 까지 Lexington Park United Methodist Church의 음악감독으로서 합창지휘와 오케스트라지휘를 맡았다. 또한 음악의 중요성을 일찌감치 깨달아 지역을 더 좋은곳으로 혁신하고자 하는 그녀는 Lexington Park Concert Series 의 창시자이자 음악감독으로서 Southern Maryland 지역사회 문화예술 발전에 기여를 했다. 음악감독이자 피아니스트 Dr. 홍지혜는 현재 볼티모어-워싱턴지역 가장 큰 미국감리교회(UMC) 중 하나인 Glen Mar United Methodist Church에서 15여개의 음악 프로그램을 디렉팅 하고있으며, 볼티모어-워싱턴 지역 교회음악 발전에 중추적 역할을 하고있다.
